We went to Rockport last year in January and stayed in the Yurts that are part of the state Park. Everybody slept warm and the fishing was fun. Most of the boys just ended up playing football on the ice, Check out the state park web site. Make sure to give the boys a good checklist for clothing and then go over it with them. We had one boy show up with jeans and tennis shoes, if we hadn't noticed that that was all he was bringing he would have froze. Instead he borrowed my wife's boots and snow pants. Make sure that the boys who are old enough have fishing licenses.

March is scary for ice conditions. I think I'd plan on sleeping on shore. You'll need to fine tune your plans as it gets closer, but if it was now Hyrum has been fishing really well. I think I'll take our cubs out there in the next couple weeks and I'm taking the scouts to Bear Lake if it freezes by Cisco time. Sounds like you have a fun event I think they'll love it. Thanks for taking them out. Later J

Strawberry, can be safe the first of March. Can be slushy too. You just never know. Ice could be 24 inches thick by then. Sleep in the parking lot at Chicken Creek, the Ladders or Mud Creek. Seen lots of Scouts stay at Chicken Creek. Take some ground cloths and straw. Place the ground cloths, then the straw, then more ground cloths. It will insulate you from the cold ground and make a nice mattress to sleep on. then you roll the straw up in the ground cloths and take it home or to the dumpster. Make sure you use straw, not hay or alfalfa. If you want a little more isolation, look at Current Creek.
Winter camping can be fun as well as cold. I used to do a lot of it as a kid and have very fond memories.
Good luck and have a good time.

You replied to the wrong post, but it sounds like a great suggestion for him. Thanks J

As was said earlier March can be really iffy for ice conditions. Often times you have to use a plank to get on and off the ice at that time as the edges have turned really soft.
I would think of hitting Pineview with scouts though. The perch aren't big, but they are plentiful so you should be able to catch a boat load of them.
Strawberry is another good option, but usually by late season all the real easy areas to access have been hit pretty hard, so the fishing can be slow.
