Although I have fished for many years, I haven't iced fished before and was planning on going to Pineview with my two oldest children tomorrow. My kids have been anticipating this trip for a couple of weeks. However, with the big dump of snow, I'm considering canceling the trip.
Would any of you seasoned ice fishermen give me some recommendation. If I should cancel the trip? Also any additional recommendation/advice would be most appreciative.
The items I will be bringing will be a 6x6x6 ice shelter, propane 8" auger, buddy heater, ice skimmer and Marcum fish finder.

Three of us "Ice fishing seasoned anglers" had a trip planned for tomorrow and we just cancelled. One cancelled because of the bitter cold and another "me" cancelled because of too dangerous road conditions. Your call, but the conditions will be miserable and parking will likely be difficult at Pineview (been there and done that).

I will be up there in the mourning. Just make sure you dont slack on dressing warm (even though you have a tent) If you do go be sure to get your tent staked into the ice before you put it up or atleast fast because I would imagine it will be close to blizzard conditions. Also pack snow along the outside of your tent it will help insulate and help hold it down (a snow shovel wouldnt be a terrible idea). I hope you are bringing some fishing gear along not just whats on that list haha[laugh] Its all your call and wether or not you go up.

My big trip to Flaming Gorge was pushed back because of weather and wimps. No looking for a local place to drill a hole. ( can't give up the kitchen pass I worked so hard on).
Been to Causey a few times already and I am tired of catching 6-8" bows.
Thinking of walleye at Willard bay. Maybe get into some crappie. Could do that at PV and pull in some perch too. Only ever fished off cemetery point there though.
East canyon would be fun. I like smoked trout.
My thoughts are that everyone will stay home because of weather and snow. Might be a perfect weekend for fishing.
Anyone with some other ideas or need a ride let me know. PM me.

I canx my trip for tomorrow as well, it just isn't worth the risk imo. From what I heard this storm is suppose to be going until noon tomorrow.

Also if there is a bunch of fresh snow on the ice make sure that your boots are waterproof.
There have been times that we were fishing with anywhere from two to six inches of standing water on top of the ice after drilling out holes.

Thank you everyone for your posts. Because of the quantity of snow, not necessarily the cold, we decided to cancel the trip. Since this will be our first time out we wanted to play it on the safe side. I told the kids that if it slows down and they plow in the area of Pineview that we would go on Sunday. Even if it ends up being half day fishing.
To make up for the change of plans, the kids and I will still setup the shelter and heater in the yard and probably eat in there for half an our or so.
Once again, thanks everyone. I did get some get information from you all that I will put to use in the next couple/few days.

K2Muskie, thanks for the detailed information. I will be putting it to good use tomorrow with my kids. Unfortunately, I have to make a quick dash to Cabela's. Last week I purchase a Jiffy propane auger and it was defective. The gas line was leaking horribly. I returned it today and exchanged for a 4 stroke jiffy. I couldn't believe it when I arrived home to test it before I went on the ice tomorrow and it too was defective. The mechanism which retracts the pull cord failed. I will be going to Cabela's before they open to do another exchange. I will buy a manual auger as backup to a propane or gas. I think they only had one left.
