Pineview and Hyrum
#1
After today's trip I'm fairly close to being done with both waters for ice fishing. Pineview has a huge dangerous edge by cemetary point south side and can only be accessed by walking due west for a bit to a point. Many have fallen through as numerous holes and shattered ice reveals the story starkly. Once on the ice I only got one lonely nibble in an hour! I pretty much never get skunked but today I did at pineview, simply didn't have the energy to try the narrows after fighting all the slush plus had a full workout at gym with the workout gal yesterday. Crazy enough to hit up hyrum to see what was going on there. Got waaaay close to the inlet, a little too close, backed up some and tried various holes......one perch LOL. The climb up big toe just about did me in LOL. I didn't sleep good cuz anxious to go fishing but that also drained my stamina quite a bit. I would say flat out don't go to either of these places despite whatever alluring videos you see on the forum. I totally regret this one. All torture, all slush. Sooooo dead! Unbelievable!

By the way on New Year's Day was out on the South side of Cenetaary same area and managed a limit in half an hour! Every trip since that one has slowed down considerably. Now it's just plain nada.......well today at least. If any of you want to go tomorrow I suggest what I've done in the past.......put on the neoprene waders and boots, bust up all the soft stuff and then climb onto the ice. It's crazy but doable, the ice is thick beyond that edge. But don't get too excited for fast fishing LOL

Did you happen to see if the North side of Cemetary Point was in any better shape?

From my recon mission yesterday I'd say yes the north side shoreline is in better shape. If I were to recommend PV it would be the north side.

Now mind you shoreline ice edges could still be soft but nothing near what I saw on all south facing shorelines. I didn't walk down to the ice as I was lazy and didn't want to hike down and back up any more hills. Here's a pic I did snap of the north side. Today temps appear a titch colder so again getting on in the AM hours probably not a problem its the coming off that could be interesting but I'd say the north side could be less worrisome of getting wet but no gurantees.

Thanks a million for the info and the picture! I'm stuck at work all weekend but I would love to get back up there Monday or Tuesday...might be even worse then! I'm not one for sketchy ice so maybe I better plan for somewhere else. Thanks again!

Didn't go to the north side after the sweating from tromping the slush. But most places the water has risen at least 5ft in a ring around the shoreline so it's not something you can jump across or I would have done it. Many places you would need a 10ft plank at least. I would try the narrows as that is deeper so the soft ring won't be as wide since it's more deep and vertical.

Fished the narrows last night. There was at least a foot of water/slush on top of the ice. Wore my duck hunting waders to stay dry - it was slow.

Need a couple good cold nights.
