ice screws
#1
I have the ice anchors that screw into the ice to ancher my ten. The problem I am having is that after a few hours I will go out side to take down my tent. This ice around the screws has always melted and the cleat is ready to pop out. A few strong winds and my tent could be flying away. How can I stop this from happening? I bought a new tent the other day and it came with spikes to drive into the ice with a hammer. I figured I could use those but I don't know how i would get them back out of the ice after I was done. All I could do is drive them all the way into the ice and let them sink when the ice melts in the spring. Give me some suggestions.

Eskimo ice screws. A bit on the pricy side, but well worth it. They screw in faster, stay in place and extract very easily. I try to buy 2 each year to replace the ones that came with my Fabrill 6 man tent.

The problem you are talking about will happen with any metal spike being a screw or not. What is happening is the air is warmer than the ice. Thus the metal is conducting the heat in the air, melting the ice around it.
Cover the screw with snow. That will stop it from melting. [Wink]
