update to first time at the gorge. we ended up going to holmes crossing.got there at 10 am tried for the lakers untill about 3 pm then after talking to wyoming fish n game we went to a point just south of the boat ramp to try our hand at the burbot. gotta say it was slow we only got 3 in the 15 /18 in range.all between 6 30 and 9 00 pm. fished untill midnight. no lake trout . had a blast and learned a bunch. going to try it again soon. fish and game said to try the lost dog area. going to try there next time. thanks again to everyone who helped me out.

The gorge can be a difficult lake, I know people who have spent years trying to figure that lake out. Keep trying and pay attention to the depths that you catch fish, just cause those pigs are below you doesn't mean that they will bite. Often them lakers take the perfect presentation and some patience. I have never figured them out myself, just went with a friend who knows how catch them and he still has his days that ain't that good but once you finally catch just one over 5lbs you may become obsessed with chance at one over 30lbs.

i did keep a few notes, i was at 73 ft and a local guy from the area came over and talked to me for a bit. he punched a hole about 50 ft from me and got a 4 lb laker in 15 min. same jig i had on so i guess its why they call it fishing and not catching huh. it was cool he gave me lots of pointers on the lake in that area and some others too. Anyone have a recipe for the burbot. i hear they are sweet and sorta like lobster.
