Late report on strawberry - fished the ladders on sunday w/a group of four. We got a total of 13 fish most bows just over a lb. didn't see many big fish or constant action, but they were all interested when they came in. Best lure was a rainbow kastmaster. Fish 20' , 15', and 10'.
I also punched in the cords that I got from the fish co. topo map #47 for more luck and didn't see any fish in that location - submerged roadbed? Must be the wrong season.
Biggest fish was 2 lb even.
Good day overall - going back to the ladders on Monday - or maybe Yuba if I can get some intel.

sounds like a good trip....If ya want to learn pike, or any fish for that matter, In-fisherman is a great site and show, you can learn a lot. I found a money little lure by reading that site and took it down to try at yuba for my first trip a month or so ago and it worked and now they might even be sold out of those jigs, cat got outta the bag, but other various types of similar lures work. I noticed on my camera that with pike, you either have one that's gonna play or not, no fancy technique will entice one but when presented with two various types of jigs they definitely go for one type over another but when that isn't present they'll still hit quite a few different things. Most importantly is location, get in a spot where there are pike moving through, rocks are good or weeds if you can find them. you can pm me and I'll tell ya that jig, I don't think it's a huge deal but helps but like with anything else, location.

Thanks for the info! I'd like to go to Yuba and find some pike...How's the population there? Do you think it would be a better choice than Strawberry Ladders? For Monday

depends on whether you want to just catch fish or catch THE fish. There are lots of pike but they're pretty scattered through the ice. a good day for pike could be 2-8 fish but no guarantees on even catching a fish. It's one of those things where ya try and get them off the bucket list and not have too high of expectations and hope it turns out to be a good day. try finding structure, fish off the rocks in 20 feet or try finding weeds in the 10 -15 ft deep range, I'm sure you'd have some pike cruise by. use steel leader attached to your jig in case they t-bone it.
