Deadwater Ice Jam coverage continues
#1
We, like you, and probably everybody else are just watchin' and waitin' for that Deadwater Ice Jam to break loose. As of today, it hasn't. However, as you all know, with ice jams, anything can happen this time of year. Those ice jams dance to the beat of a different drummer, that's for sure.

Tam Ambrose at The Village At North Fork sent two more pictures today. We put them online next to the Monday photos so you can see just what little subtle things have happened there in the last 48 hours. Our contact in Salmon continues to think the ice jam should break by on or before Friday. Looking at all that ice, it seems hard to imagine but, then again, ice jams lead weird lives and anything can happen.

We really wish there was a Deadwater Ice Jam Cam. That would be cool--a Jam Cam.

Well, here's the link to the paired photos:

Well, Thanks, Skeeter210! We did discover some interesting information from the North Fork folks but we can't really explain it here, if you know what we mean. All we can say is those folks who are in the vicinity of North Fork might just want to stop in the store and ask around.[/quote]Any ice pic's today?

Howdy, Skeeter210--I am sitting and waiting by the computer right now. I just got a really cool Access Report from Salmon IDFG but there's a glitch in the formatting so I asked them to correct it. They sent the first photos (so far) of the actual conditions farther down river in Deadwater. Looks pretty gnarly. ANyway, I am trying to get the most current information this morning but The VIllage People are real busy and haven't had a chance to get back with me. I will put up a note here as soon as I know something. Thanks for your guess. Now the question is, who's gonna be hangin' out at 2:30 am to see if you were right on Sunday morning?

I hope it breaks soon. I have plans to come up next week and I am afraid it may not be fish able below deadwater.

If I were a betting man I would bet the fish are swimming right under that ice jam.........

I agree with you, they will swim below the ice jam. The significance of deadwater blowing out isn't in the ice "blockage" it's more of a barometer for the water temperature. When the air and water temps warm up enough to blow out deadwater, then its warm enough for fish to be more active and start migrating again and for the fishing to really pick up.

Also the River is usually too Muddy to fish below there from the ice churning and stirring up mud and silt,Thats why you want it out so the water clarity will clear up below deadwater.
