Joes valley can be great fishing. The lale has rainbow, cuthroat, and splake (some splake with good size) and a most recent addition of tiger muskie that are getting up into the 35-40" range. Where to fish it depends on what you are after, time of year, but most areas in the lake will produce. If you are new to that area, there is many small lakes and rivers that provide great fishing for small trout in very scenic settings. That said right now may not be great , there are bubble up springs all over joes valley that can make for very hazardous ice conditions , and more so the closer to ice out we get. Ice out there usu
ally occurs arround mid april to the first of may.

Thanks for the info Lonnie. It seems strange they put Tigers in there, I thought the DNR only planted them in lakes with stunted panfish problems[:/], does JV even have panfish of any kind? Maybe it has a problem of too many chubs[:/]?

For years joes valley was a very good family trout fishery. Then about 20 years ago it got run over by chubs. Splake were introduced and have done well. Producing some real trophy splake. However joes valley is very deep (160 feet) and the splake stayed pretty deep for the most part and the chubs were still abundant. About 4-5 years ago the dwr planted tiger muskie there to combat the chubs in the shallow waters , they have flurrished and now many 35-40 inch tigers are being caught. And they seem to be putting a real dent in the chubs as thge trout fishing seems to be rebounding a bit.Joes valley is a very under utilized fishery, and may be one of the states best kept secrets with the recent events.
