When will Utah Lake be thawed ??
#1
Good afternoon. Looks like Utah lake is thawing at the edges. Probably 40 feet or more from shore on the North West corner. Anybody know when it is usually all thawed out for the year? The weather is getting better and time for me to get out there and do some fishing on the lake.

I think it's still a couple weeks.

A sizeable part of the North West corner of the lake never freezes due to the geothermal activity in the area -- so that area is not a fair representation of the ice thickness across the body of water.

Any of you fellers ever pray for wind? I am. Strong wind. Blow hard. Blow it all off...

March 17 is usually the date that the main lake is ice free, however, it depends on other factors for the marina's. While a south wind will thaw it, a good north wind will start it blowing off. That Northwest Corner is where the wind will be able to start to move the ice, since the prevailing winds come either from the Northwest or Southwest. We are slated to get several storms later in the week, so the process may start. So, cross your fingers and get out to watch the show !!
