Strawberry AHHHHH!!!!!
#1
Hit the berry 3-5-13 about 8:00 am -9 fished till 2:pm 28 degrees when we louded up the sleds. AHHH!! was the weather so nice, sunny and clear all day and the famous 10-11 am breez was nowhere to be found, fished with the coat off all day. Fishing was fair back in renagade,we landed some nice bows, released a few dinkster bows and only 4 cuts caught all day.

I fished Strawberry last weekend with my shirt off...felt great. Other anglers were looking at me kinda funny.

We were also in Renegade with zero Rainbows landed--all were slot Cutts. We landed around 30 in our group of three, couldn't keep a single one (which is ok with me 'cause I don't have to handle 'em). Congrats on the haul and the start to your summer tan [cool].

How were ice conditions? Lots of snow/slush on top?

Ice was fine. The snow was blown and crusted, which made it really easy to walk around 'yer hole and fish.

Coming across the lake there was one slushy spot at the mouth of Indian Bay on the Renegade side. Ice was still 16-18".

The ice was talking all afternoon with the 40+ temperatures. There is still a few more weeks to fish it up there. Nothing to worry about crossing the lake...yet.

How much longer do you think until some ice off because I'd love to fly fish and float tube on ice off for the first time?

Last season I was able to fish until the beginning of April. My last trip of the season was there...I wanna say it was either the first or second Saturday of April. The weather pattern this spring is similar to last year. It warmed up for a week, melted all the snow, and then froze again leaving the ice more soft.

You should be able to float your tube around the end of April. Large ice chunks will still be present, but you can still fish open water. The lake will be fully open around May.

Ice-off at Strawberry can be insane! Start with shallower water, the fish are feeding like crazy in the spring time for the spawn. I've had great success in the 10-25' range in the spring. But that's just my luck--different strokes for different folks.

Ice conditions were good no problems for awhile. Thier was a inch of new snow but the rest was crusted up, we did not hit any slush pockets going across the bay over the hill onto the raod then into horse creek around to indian bay. An atv would have been fine.

I would guess mid April first week in may. I hit it a couple yrs ago end of april 1st week of may fishing by the lodge with 30 yrds open water and watched the whole bay open up when the wind came in it was wild.
