Ice fishing, who wouldn't love it.
#1
Since safe ice is only a couple weeks away I thought I'd share a couple of my favorites from last year to get everybody in the mood.

A friends first day on the ice. He was pissed because he couldn't keep any.

A great day riding into a killer lake. It was so cold and wet my carb froze.

-10 this was just a average fish.

Still working the fish even though the ride out is 7 miles. Ah this was definetly a great day on the ice and look at that sky.

Brother forgot how to drive in the snow. We got out and made a great day out of it.

First ice and none stop action. To bad the ice is 2".

20+" brookie and extremely cold. Look at those finger tips and face.

Now thats a respectable fish.

Sorry to be the bad guy here, if you are going to put pics in your post, keep them sized to a maximum of 400 pixels wide. Great pics though Smile Teroy

hedgesd,
Man, seeing that pic of the Minersville monster gets me going. I can't wait. I am so stoked. I hope that this recent rain will help the situation down at Minersville.

Good luck.

I don't think it will the last time I check it was lower then the conservation pool. I've almost given up thinking that lake will ever fill.

hegdesd,
The last time I was there it was below the outlet. In other words, they had drawn all of the water out that is physically possible. To get any lower it would have to evaporate. But the water rights agreements mean that from now until May all of the water coming down the Beaver river goes to the reservoir.

It won't even get close to full, but it will get enough to keep a few fish alive. I'll bet that even a few will bite through the ice about the middle of December.

I just wish this lake would stay full so they could actually stock it to normal levels. It takes a couple really cold weeks before this lake will even start freezing and then safe ice only last a couple weeks or less. I've seen more people go through at this lake then any other combined. Plus the water clarity is so horrible it'a amazing any fish could even live in it or even find a jig.

I've got a friend who goes out on the edge of the ice and sits their and fly fishes. He's kind off a nut but does dang good. You won't catch me doing that though.

I am ready for the ice. It is undoubtedly my favorite kind of fishing. I am a little spoiled though, we take the light weight shanty's just in case it gets a little cold and we are geared with the heaters also.Bring on the ice.

Man that gets me excited. Nice fish as well. Is minersville a Southern Utah lake? Looks like it really holds some nice fish. Thanks for showing the pics.

I don't like icce fishing...at least the only time I went it was to Utah Lake to the State Park Marina, and fished for a couple hours with no luck. I decided then and there that ice fishing sucks and i would never go again...and I haven't. But hearing how much everyone here loves it and seeing the pics you post, I think I really would enjoy it, especially for trout like at Strawberry or Huntington.

I just have so little time during the school year to do any fishing, and I don't have an auger. Maybe I'll give it another shot this year.

7 miles in at Minersville!?!?! I've never been down through there in the winter months. Do they close the highway that goes by the lake?

Three of those pictures is from Minersville and the rest are from other lakes. I like getting into places most people don't go or wouldn't think about going. I've yet to make a trip to boulder and ride in some place. The highway isn't closed to Minersville.

I can understand how most people don't like ice fishing their first time out but I can tell you this, once you get the hang of it you'll never quit. A average day out, I expect atleast non-stop biting and 40 something fish. I'd suggest going with somebody that knows the tricks and has a auger. I go to school and I still manage to get out every week.

How about everybody start posting a couple pictures of there trips from last year. I would love to see them.

Is everybody going to be at the Fishlake ice party?

Had I'd know you could catch the 2 at the bottom left at Pineview I'd have fished it harder and a lot more often. I've enclosed the picture of my buddy Mike "State Cop in Oregon now" Buck with his monster perch out of Hyrum. New Years Day 1999. It was 19" and weighed 2 pounds.

That pic of Pineview is the spot you told me about . I got nice ones every time I went last year . Just never caught anymore than 12 perch in a day . Now that is a jumbo perch in that pic .
