500 lb. Catfish Story Fact/Fiction??
#1
Since it is a slow posting day I'll rob this story off another site:

http://espn.go.com/outdoors/fishing/s/f_fea_catfish_myth-or-fact_TN_Wilson.html

Does this look like a real picture???

Give you feedback - I'd say that it isn't real - looks like the guy is stuck in the picture.

The picture does look to be enhanced, but that would be one fish to tell for the ages.

I was amazed at how big the cats get down in S. america, here is a picture on the BFT wall of fame of 3 piraiba cats.

Its fake. My buddy took a graphic desigen and photo editing class and they used this as an example of an EASY TO SEE modify. One he is just not quite looking at the fish. 2 he is much lighter then the rest of the pic and 3 the most obvious is the faint white line around most his body.

[cool]No matter where you go around this country, you can find old pictures with huge specimens of the favorite local fish. I have seen one of a giant rainbow trout being hauled in a wagon by a team of horses. I have also seen both pictures and mounts of Jackalopes...and other manmade critter creations.

The picture of the catfish has been discussed in several national fishing publications. Fisheries biologists identify it as a flathead catfish...for which the world record is less than a third of the estimated weight of the one in the picture. And, they (biologists) are doubtful that any specimen has ever exceeded 200 pounds.

There are catfish in Asia, AFrica and Eorope that can reach into the hundreds of pounds. But, I personally doubt the validity of that photo.

Just like the doctored photos, almost every area that has a big dam on a lake has stories of the divers who went down to clean out the turbines (or something) and were either eaten or chased away by catfish as big as clydesdale horses. I ain't saying anybody's mother is a liar, but I sure hope those folks don't try to come up with proof that bigfoot exists. Actually, I might be more inclined to buy into that one. I have a son that could pass for bigfoot...and that's on a good day.

[cool]Nope. His older brother (#1 son, Mike) is bigger than I am. I call him Son, sir. He got too big to wear my hand-me-downs a long time ago...including his feet...Bigfoot. He was in the navy nuclear program and his nickname was "King Kong".

He is a fisherman too, but is going through some life crisis situations and is not focused on fishing these days. There is a good chance he will be moving back to Utah too, and I might get him reprogrammed...and hooked up with BFT.

I remember when my bro was in the 6th grade. The other kids would make fun of his size 13 shoe(at the time). He would simply respond " A wise man once said that a castle needs a bigger foundation than an outhouse" There were no further comment about his big feet from there on out.[cool]

The picture looks very fake if you look at it closely. Exactly what is that guy standing on? and it looks like a toy model if you look at the background and the fish on the cart.
