I remember when an old gentleman caught the previous 40 lb 10 oz record out of the Little Red River in Arkansas. He caught it on a fly. It was huge too. He caught it right before my family moved there.

Ok, 42 pounds, big and all, but . . . Its a pellet head! That doesn't count! Farm raised.

The previous brown trout record was in 2009 from the Manistee River in my home state of Michigan. It was 41 lb and 7oz. The Arkansas record was in place from 1992-2008. The fish from Michigan was a true "wild" fish and I agree with TarponJim that this newest record is a hatchery fed wonder [i.e. pellet head] (even though it wasn't technically in the hatchery when it was caught).

I knew about the Michigan brown. And the weight on the one from Arkansas was 40 lbs 4 oz - not what I had said earlier. Who knows why those numbers popped into my head. That's what we get for trying to "remember." But I know one thing - I'd LOVE to catch a 40+ pound trout.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I wouldn't eat that.
