you need to register it, its 30 something bucks, just tell them it is an inflatable fishing raft. if you say potoon they will think it is a pontoon boat that you launch from a trailer, not a personal pontoon boat. anything with a motor needs to be registered. if you go to ID or WY and use it you will need to purchase an invasive species stamp for each state

Yes you do need to register it. Its is around $38. I will see if I can find the forms you need to fill out for the initial registration.

Try these forms. They should help.

The TC656V is required.

WOW...it is $37.00. They have got a lot of pontoons these days, tell them the make and I bet they have it on file.
Sorry, but it is an inflatable pontoon and need be registered as such.
If you do not have the sales receipt for the boat, look it up on line or close to it and take that info.
Not like the old days, the price of the pontoon will not really matter as it is a flat rate.
It is getting easier to do. I did three last year.
Now if the pontoon is older, you might want to take it if you can. Or you could get taxed for the boat. If it is new, take the receipt to show you have paid tax on it.
There is a chance it could cost you more the first time so be prepared for that, but you will be able to do it on line from here on out.

If your boat has a VIN # or some kind of model # it will speed things up.

Then they will give you a Registration Form which will have the Utah sticker and the Year sticker and a number for the boat. You will need to either go buy the 3" numbers and Letters to mount on the side of your pontoon like a regular boat. Not on the frame, not on the oars, on the side visible from a distance. This they are cracking down on. You could paint the letters and numbers on a board, but again 3" and visible.

They are getting more tight on these however. They do want to know what pontoon you are licensing and it is for THAT pontoon, not any other.

It sounds scary but it took me 10 minutes to license all three of mine.

I registered my pontoon last year and all I did was take in a statement describing the boat, including make and length. the process was very simple. it cost me 36 bucks a year. it was a lot less painless than I expected.

FWIW, I just had this guy print up the numbers for my boat. I had him fix it to a peice of PVC that matched the color of my boat. He could have just attached it to the boat itself. He only charged me 25 bucks for both mounted. If you just stuck them on your boat it might be less. Any color you want. That is less than you can buy the letters to stick on and these look great and are straight. He keep the dimentions and should only take a day or two.He is up to speed if you want to call him.

If you put a motor on them[laugh]
But, logically, you have to license any boat once you put a motor on, so it makes sense.

I got lucky last year got the right person, and got it registered in a matter of minutes, now that I did, they mailed me the renewal for this year and got my stickers pretty quick. No hassle now.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it but take a photo of the boat with you so they can see what you are talking about. In fact, that is one of the things I was told to bring. I went to the Draper office and they seemed to know about them and it took me maybe five or ten minutes at the most.

I don't have any desire to sell my pontoon anytime in the future so I just had reverse decals made, stuck them to the pontoons and spray painted them on with white rubber paint. Easy as can be.
