Cottonwood Creek
#1
I finally hit the cottonwood on saturday. Started out at the park, and went to the big spillway hole. Saw no fish in it at all. So, I put on my rubber boots and went down creek. At the next cement spillway, 2 3 pound browns were spawning. I threw everything at them I had except for my little gitzit, so I tried that too. Right off, the male darted out and nailed it! I got him and and released him, in good condition. Then, I went up to Highland drive, and caught 3 more there, about 1 1/2 pounds a peice. I looked in the big hole up high by training table, and about 10 carp were in it. I sat there with a little bit of bread and caught every last one of them. I finally went down lower, and caught 1 more brown about 2 pounds. A pretty good after noon! By the way, water was EXTREMELY low and crystal clear. Fish were spooky-the vanish on my reel saved me.

Where along Highland Drive were you. I've checked out the creek by Cottonwood Mall and it doesn't look like it has much water in it?

You know, I lived right next to that creek for 5 years and never fished it. I always meant to but never got around to it. Now I wished I had.

What did you do with the carp you caught?

I put the bread on a sliding 1/2 oz sinker, and put it down to them. I watched them hit, then waited for it to come tight. Since I'm not doin much cat fishing now-a-days, I released all of the big boys unharmed. That river right there really shows the drought conditions. Ordinarily, under the bridge down stream from training table, it has about 4 inches of water over the entire stream bottom. Now, the water is 5 inches deep, and about 3 feet wide. I was amazed the browns were still in it. I'm kind of regreting not going to the mill creek or even just lower on the cottonwood, but hey, any day on the water is better than doing math![Wink] I'm hoping to fish the mill creek wedensday morning by granite high, I'll let you guys know how I do.
