Bad day @ Blackrock - I was due- some laughs?
#1
Let's start at the beginning. Decided that I had a big enough gut and I needed to get off my, you know what, and do something. Sooooo, may as well do something I enjoy. It was getting late but got my stuff together and headed to the Weeb. 10 mi. down the road, I realized I'd left my day pack with my fishing gear at home. So, back I went. headed out, getting late. Got to the river and it was "chocolate".[mad] Oh well, give it a try and give Sparky some fun. Caught one cookie cutter and decided to add a wax worm because of the chocalate conditions. Where the heck are they. I had put em in my wader pouch and not there?? Ok, that's ok, probably shouldn't revert to that any way. Well, caught another, surprising, released it after laying my fly rod down and went back at it agin. Got a nice brown that jumped more then the rainbows and went to reel in my excess line. No crank, broke off!!!! [mad] Did the best I could hand turning w/o the crank and landed him. Decided since it was getting late because of the late start and the bad stuff that was happening to head home. That old fly reel was about 40 years old and, well, I was not a happy camper. Got home, took off my waders and wala, there my wax worms were, inside my waders. Had missed the pouch and stuffed em down the waders,
well,----------, that was my day. Hopefully I gave ya all a few laughs. [Smile]

I hate when stuff like that happens. When I went out on Friday, I noticed my fish finder batteries were dead. I planned on stopping in Preston for a soda, so I was going to pick some up then. Got up to the lake, and realized I'd forgotten to buy them. I drove back to town to buy some, then back to the lake, only to discover that I'd left the float tube fish finder holder at home. After some scrounging through my trunk I realized I could fashion something out of one of the back packing straps on the tube that would hold the fish finder. After all that though, I was still a bit early for the bass and only landed three planters for the afternoon. Oh well, it's supposed to warm up next week and then hopefully things will get moving.

It isn't a normal fishing day for me if I don't leave something home or fall on my b..... and break something!

That reminds me, I didn't learn from your misfortune. When I fished The Logan a few weeks ago, my 4wt snapped on a 10" brown about an hour into the trip. I didn't bring a back up, (which is what I should have learned from your trip last year) so I had to drive the hour home with only an hours fishing to show for it. This year hasn't been so great so far [:/]

Found another old real in a drawer. Let's see how long it lasts me. Should last until I'm in the nursing home. [laugh][laugh][laugh] I just strip line off to give me enough line to finger control, depending on the size of the fish and the water I'm fishing and just use the reel to retrieve line. Some times Sparky gives me a challenge though. I have had occassion to rely on the reel for control and drag but not that often. We seem to survive just fine. If i lose one, I call it a professional release. [Wink]
