New with question about reel
#1
Hey, guys. I got a question for ya.

I was digging through my neighbor's trash, hauling recyclable stuff to my house, I turned over a can, and something fell deeper in the pile. As I sifted deeper, I found a AmbasSadeur 5000C fishing reel. On the thing you spin (I have no experience with fishing), it says 'Ranger', and I guess it's the bottom.... It has a metal strip with this serial number: 087200.

It's in excellent shape, only a few tiny spots of rust that will most likely sand out very easily, and looks like its never even been used.

It's also marked 'ABU Sweden'. Judging from the font it's got on it, I'd say late 70s - early 80s.

Google didn't really pull up much except for that the 'De Luxe' version once sold for $1,700, they seem to be big overseas, and that they seem to be priced right around $250 for a buy-it-now on Ebay.

What I want to know is this: What do I have, what should I do with it, how much is it worth, and how much can I sell it for?

I can get pics if you need them.

Thanks

Sounds like its time to learn how to fish. All depends upon the condition it's in. Welcome to BFT!

Heh. I never really have cared much for fishing... I can't sit still for very long. I'd rather be exploring the woods around our ponds than fishing. Tongue

I'm just curious as to what it's worth and was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly what I have.

That is a basic Abu Garcia reel you can pick up at most tackle stores and such. Great flounder reel, medium catfish reel, and easy to rebuild. Value? you might get 20 bucks out of it, if it works properly.
