Yuba???
#1
Heading down to Yuba on Saturday for my birthday.... probably along with a hundred other anglers being a Saturday[crazy]. Just wondering from you guys who have been down there recently if time of day has been much of a factor. Are they biting at dawn? Better as the day warms up?
I don't mind getting out there at the crack of dawn, but if it isn't necessary, I have a 7 month old that has made me forget what sleeping in is... and that isn't sounding too bad if the fishing is better or as good later in the day.

Thanks for any help/info.

Look to the shallows, cast a Johnson's Silver minnow, 3/4 oz. in gold, cast straight into the cover, the willows, cockleburs, your window to catch them in the shallows is closing, the best bite I've found is going to be during the warmest part if the day, Gold is the key color, the second your spoon/inline spinner hits the water, start cranking it in...keep it within 0'<2' deep, please release the bigger 30"<keep the little 20" if you want to eat em
Happy Birthday,
Tight Lines

Right on brooktroutboy! Keep all those little ones relaese them 36" and up, its the only way to sustain this high quality Northern Pike fishery.

Brooktroutboy, what do you think the window for the pike in the shallows will be this year? I wanna get up there to fish before the prime time is over...just too many great waters to fish.

I would say it going to depend on the outside temperature, the warmer weather will warm the water up and the majority of the larger pike will move deep, you still have a couple weeks left to fish, from what I've noticed the bigger pike have already went deep, and just the small 20"-30" that are in the shallows, my guess is there eating the pike fry.

fish it as early as you can, its warm enough now that daytime temps don't matter plus, if that afternoon wind kicks up, fishing the shallows is impossible, so try and fish early when it's the calmest. chuck whatever ya want shallow, some like spoons, I like husky jerks, more options with them, especially if they are following it, the larger size with 3 trebles swims the best, in the light perch color also. you can also head out deeper in the bays and throw heavier swimbaits and spoons on a slower retrieve.
