Comments on new Mercury 150 4 stroke?
#1
Any of you guys own the newest Mercury 150 hp 4 stroke, the one that is supposed to be a dream for home maintenance?
Do you agree it is easy to maintain?
Have they stranded you or given you any glitches on the water?
Do you feel they are powerful enough on your boat and what type of boat do you have them hanging on?
Thanks for all comments.

I've only had it on the water 3 times since buying it, so I can't really give you much info on actual maintenance and reliability. From what I've seen, changing filters and draining the oil and all the good stuff look very simple and clean.

The motor is amazingly quiet. You can carry on a conversation while running WOT.

Seems to have enough power for my 18'8" fiberglass boat.

So far, so good.

I assume your 1850 weighs around 2400 lbs?
What is your speed at WOT and what are your r's at WOT?

I really haven't pushed it yet. Here's what I've done so far:

Full tank of gas, 4 grown men, 2 children, 1 cooler full of stripers: 39 mph @ ~5000rpm

(I think I could actually get a few more mph -- I'm not running full throttle as of yet...)

That actually matched up fairly close to Mercury's engine test on the Ranger 1860 Angler (1750 pounds). My boat specs at 1810 lbs (+ 500lb motor) .

I hope to get a good number of SMB in this boat. Maybe a few LMB too. A walleye here and there, some crappie, and coolers full of stripers.

But the real goal of this boat is TROUT!

The front deck is about as nice a fly-casting platform as you can find. I have never understood why all those silly bass guys use those funny bait-cast rods / reels when they could be tossing flies from that front deck!

I'll post some pictures of some fly-caught stripers on Monday!

I have one on a 17.5' Alumacraft Trophy. I have been real happy with it so far no troubles at all. I changed the oil last fall and it was as easy as advertized. I run 43 MPH on the Gorge acording to my handheld GPS at 5400 RPM with a 17 pitch prop. It does troll a little fast at 2.4 MPH with a trolling plate so I just run with the electric.
