I'm not cool enough to have a boat yet so all the fishing I have to do is from the shore. I've been fishing the community ponds mostly but it's getting kind of redundant going to the same place over and over again. Can you catch much fishing from the shore at like UL or strawberry? Bass is mostly what I'm wanting but I'm down to catch anything. A good cat fight is always nice too [ ] any help is much appreciated

Deer Creek, there is bass there and Jordanelle. Strawberry very easy to fish from shore.

Sounds like its time for you to invest in a nice float tube or toon. When I did I couldn't afford a boat (still can't) and I really haven't missed owning one.
At deer creek I would recommend going to charleston area. Lots of brush with access from shore. Bass love it there. That is where I am planning on hitting either Monday or Tuesday next week.

We fish there a lot. The rocky area by the State boat launch is accessible. To the south of the launch. I was pounding bass there.
FFL and TDT did well else where as well from shore. Maybe they will pipe in or try pming them.

Shore fishing can be very good - as you'd see if you watched the crowd of Asian folks fishing from Willard's dikes.
But I heartily second the advice to get a tube, a 'toon or a sit-on-top kayak and have at it. You can even use them at some community ponds (Bountiful Lake, for example) and they are easy to carry in or on almost any vehicle.
I myself went from tube to 'toon and now have a fancy fishing kayak. I mainly fish Willard, Pineview, and Mantua, but have trips to Starvation, Deer Creek, and a few other places planned for this summer. I can go as many miles as I'm willing to and time allows; I can troll; I can anchor over a hotspot - and I can do it all in dead silence, not alerting the fish at all. Fabulous.

I do most my fishing from shore, as well as most my catching too[ ]. Don't get me wrong, I do use a float tube sometimes, and when I get the chance I ALWAYS get on a boat if possible. You can cover a TON of water with a boat.
When fishing from shore you should be looking for structure (weeds, rocks, trees, ect...) deep drop offs, inlets ect.....
At Strawberry, Haws Point treats me pretty good.
The same goes for the steep shorelines of the Soldier Creek side.
As for DC. I like fishing near the dam and Wallsburg Bay. I have never put any serious time into fishing Charleston, but I am sure others slay them over there.
At Utah Lake fishing from shore can be harder, and float tube really helps get away from the previously pounded spots. If you ever see a bunch of Asians at Utah Lake you just scored the jackpot. When it comes to fish indicators those guys are just as good as a bunch of birds on the water.
Big key with shore fishing is finding the fish! Keep moving till you find them!
P.S. Mantua can be pretty good from shore too.

Thanks. I would hate to ruin the moment and all....but that shot was a black and white I took at Jordanelle. Thought it was fitting since it was Friday the 13th.

Very cool post evil. Really informative. Where is Mantua? I haven't been living in Utah long enough to know all the places.

Mantua is in Northern Utah, just south of Logan.
Perfect place for panfish, trout and bass. Lots of weeds in that shallow lake, so a boat motor can really struggle during certain times of the year. There is a trail that circles the whole lake, but shore fishing is mainly done on off the west dike.
The place aint the gorge.....but it is still beautiful
And with big catch rates coming out of that lake it is not uncommon to come home with full limits!
Do yourself a favor.....hit up Mantua when it warms up, you won't regret it.

Like others have suggested I will as well. Get a float tube, you won't regret it. For a couple hundred bucks you can be on your way to fishing spots you dreamed of but couldn't get to from shore. And you spook the fish a whole lot less as well. I also second evil's entire posts, fishing where there is structure in the water, trees, brush, weeds, steep drop offs, rocks, etc. all make a good hiding place for bass no matter what lake you fish.

Mantua huh? That sounds like a lot of fun on the pontoon. Reading back through archives it looks like it has swimmers itch so I'll need waders. Anyone have any good info on the reservoir for someone who hasn't fished it before?

I know where it is now! When I was living down here a while ago and my brother was at USU I drove past it all the time going to visit him. I wasn't into fishing then so I never gave it a second thought when I saw it. I'll have to take a weekend and go try it out.

I love fishing from my kayak and would like to see your kayak setup. If you have pictures of your setup could you PM me one or post one in this post?

+3, 4? TDT - kewl shot indeed. You do take some sharp shots. Like the ice out too. Very nice.
This might help, one of TDs markups. Pictures worth . . . I think I've said enough.

I'll beg a differ on the "most from the west dyke" that may be where many fish, but that doesn't mean there's where they catch. The knoll on the east side is where I usually head (with my boat). The inlet are too can entertain. It can be hard to get to lake's edge, and there is a lot of shrubbery.
It's a great destination for ice-fishing too, then you don't have to worry for floating, you just walk.

and then too, the bags can be ample

Should be kicking up now, or soon - with the bass and gills bedding down. If/when I get heading that way - likely have a spare seat if you'd care to join up for a float. Simple craft, but does what I need it to - it floats!

My favorite was a trip - late fall - led to finding Bluegill Boils at sunset. THAT was a riot! Every cast...bump-de-bump!

Not to add to the hijack, but Lucabrasi, while fishing a lake a week ago, I found myself with feet touching the ground and I wanted to get in the weeds more (carp).
I envisioned the SUP being the ULTIMATE. And I have decided I will own one.
But being an NFO girl, I will be going with the Bimini Twist.
It is a stand up paddle board, a kayak and a kick boat all in one, plus rolls up to the size of a bed pad. Yes it is inflatable, but does not look like it. And LIGHT!

Get out on the water and you can get these shots
