Suggestions where to take the kids fishing
#1
I am in the process of planning a weekend fishing/camping trip with some friends for the weekend from June 7th-9th and I am looking for some suggestions where to go. We want do some fishing but we don't have a boat so we will be fishing from the shore. There will be kids ranging form 2 years old to 5 years old so it needs to have the potential for steady fishing action from the shore to keep them interested. And a campground with a bathroom is ideal for the women and kids. Mirror lake would be perfect, but I was looking at their site and it looks like they don't open till the end of June because of the snow.

Any suggestions? I would like to stay within 2 hours of Salt Lake. Feel free to PM if you like. Thanks for any help.

For me personally I would highly recommend Utah Lake. The big cats will be spawning at that time and they will be right in the rocks at most of the boat harbors (marinas). You can catch cats quite easily from the rocks and you can fish like a kid with a bobber rig, kids like to watch the bobber go down and these fish will fight plenty hard for the kids!!! You can fish a rig as simple as a bobber, weight and hook. Earthworms will work just fine most of the time as well. Collecting your worms at night in your backyard is just another element the kids will love doing my son and I like to go worm huntin as we call it. They can catch their bait and their fish. Utah lake is not the most scenic place but if I have kids to take out (which is a lot of the time) Utah lake is my first choice. Kids will also love catching the numerous white bass as well. Good luck with the kids and good on ya for taking them fishing... Sincerely John R.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look into them all. We would like to do some hiking while we are camping. How is the shore fishing at Currant Creek?

We were up at Currant Creek a couple of weeks ago and the fishing was excellent from the shore.

Vernon Reservoir is a good place for kids, and has a decent view and there are places to hike, might be a bit warm during the day, but it also has bathroom facilities. Good brown and rainbow trout fishing, and this time of year it is still fairly full. But I have taken my two year old and four year old and they had a good time.

you can view some pictures from here -
