G’day all,
Well I thought I would give you a bit of an update with what’s biting around my neck of the woods
As we come into winter the temps are dropping and the winter fish are moving in. I usually hit the water at 4:30am and temps are around 45F to 50F then warms up as the sun comes up to about 75F. It’s a great time of the year here. Flathead are still about and the better quality ones move into the shallows to warm themselves in the sun. Pics show some of the bigger ones at 30inch (81cm) and 26inch (67cm). Alot of fun on 6lb Nanofil and light jig heads throwing Gulp soft plastics.
Also, I have had a chance to do a bit of offshore kayaking targeting snapper. These are a fantastic table fish and highly prized for their fighting ability. They really come on the bite around dawn and dusk in the cooler months so for me it means early starts to get to my spots in time for the bite window.
There are also some Mulloway turning up in the estuary right at my front door. The smaller ones come in first around 20inch (50cm) and as it gets cooler you can catch them up to twice that size. They are a finicky fish and are not easily captured so its great to boat one now and again.
I caught a luderick also a while back. Thought you may want a look it to compare to your species. What you think? And there are some shots of some bream. These are great little fighters too. Much like a snapper except smaller.
Anyway, I suppose you lot are now enjoying the warmer weather and coming out of hibernation? I will be back in Utah probably around late July. Hopefully I will get time for a fish (my last trip saw me too busy to get out)
Tight lines fellas, be safe and look after each other!!
