UTAH lake public lands
#1
[bobSad] Is there anywhere to fish legally from shore on the west side of Utah Lake, i drove past the Geneva Pit and ST 68 and every turn off had a private land sign? Can you not get to the shoreline anymore, is it all privately owned? what is going on? Any info would help.

[#0000FF]All that area was formerly open to the public and was a good area for shore fishing and launching small boats, tubes and toons. Thanks to a lot of folks who left too much trash and who shot up private property and livestock it has been closed...temporarily.

DWR is in active negotiations with some of the land owners and the Utah County Commission to try to work out an arrangement to regain access to the public.

Thanks for the help TubeDude. I figured that was the case, but hoping I was wrong. Would it help to contact DWR and sign a petition or something in hopes of gaining a public access road to the west side. However, I totally understand where the land owners are coming from. People are just way too disrepectful these days. Unfortunate is what it is!

[#0000FF]This topic was discussed last night at the DWR open house meeting in Riverton. Chris Crockett said that there is no guarantee yet, but there are cordial and open negotiations going on between the land owners, the Utah County Commission and DWR. If all goes as hoped, there will be some nice upgrades in the area along with open access.

As Chris put it, the attorneys for all three sides are reviewing the proposals to make sure the interests of each party are protected...and that nobody gives up more than they need to. Attorneys...if there weren't any we wouldn't need 'em.

Chris is going to provide me with a list of the County Commissioners. It is his suggestion that those of us who are Utah County residents make calls to their commissioner to make them aware of our desires and concerns in the matter. There have already been some calls received and they apparently help to sway positions.
