what to do? Electric lake 6/2
#1
Well the last couple days at electric lake was cold and windy! The fishing was slow as well. I want to take the boat out somewhere tomorrow. Thinking about hitting E lake again? Mabey third times a charm? Or head up to strawberry instead? How's the fishing in a boat at the Berry right now? Any suggestions would be a big help.

Is your boat too big for Cleveland or Huntington?

It's too big for Huntington. I understand anything over 5hp motor is not allowed at Huntington?

I didnt see anything in the regs about it. But hell I've only floated on it with my tube.

I looked in the proclamation and didn't see the restrictions but I read it online that only Huntington res has that restriction. It's a strange reg but I'm not going to risk it. My motor is 25hp on a 16ft boat. It's too bad because I caught a few fish there yesterday from the shore. I didn't catch anything at Cleveland and the wind was blowing hard at electric the last couple days. Going to go up early in the morning back to electric lake. Hopefully it will not be 50 mph winds tomorrow... crossing my fingers. Wish me luck.

Don't forget that if your boat or pontoon or float tube has been in Electric Lake, it needs to be either decontaminated, or dried for 18 days during May or 7 days in June before you launch anywhere else.

Nice look up there! Well done.

In general - don't think you can rely on the fishing proclamation for boating regs. They don't cover that - jurisdiction and all that good stuff.

then there's boating regs, and enforcement of them thar regs. Like Purcupine is supposed to be wakeless, so why in heaven's name do I see ski boats with skiers?

Wish they'd make Newton wakeless, or throttle it down to 35 hrs or less. I still amazes me to see big boats launch at Benson - they must know where the channel is, lordy - I bottom out in MY flat bottom sometimes!

Also, the 7 day dry period does not start until June 21st, the first day of official summer. Until then it is 18 days.

On the certificate that I have it says June. It doesn't say the 21st.

I'm an AIS technician for the DWR and the certs we have at all th reservoirs as well as the pamphlets we hand out all say 18 days spring/fall and 7 days summer. I was told directly by my boss that the 7 day dry period starts on the official first day of summer, June 21st

Which cert do you have that just says June?

I'm sorry. I don't like the wording of my post above. It kinda sounds like I'm trying to be a jerk about it. I'm not. I'm just passing along the info that I have about the dry times. I would hate to have someone show up at a lake and be turned away due to misinformation.

Directly from the 2013
Mussel Aware Boater Program
2013 Decontamination Certification Form

Quote:1. Self-decontamination process
CLEAN all plants, fish, mussels and mud from boat (discard unsed bait in the trash).
DRAIN all water from ballasts, bilge, live wells and motors.
DRY the boat and wetted equipment for 7 days in summer (June, July and August); 18 days in spring (March, April and May) or in fall (September, October and November); and 30 days in winter (December, January and February). You can also freeze your properly winterized equipment for 72 consecutive hours (three days).

Sorry to say, but as of June 1st, it's 7 days. It doesn't say "official summer". It doesn't say anything about equinoxes, or solstices. It doesn't say start of summer, winter spring or fall. It says "DRY the boat and wetted equipment for 7 days in summer (June, July and August)".

If somebody with authority has a different opinion, they'd better get the authority to change the certificates.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I was in another boat on Thursday at electric lake. Today I took my boat to electric. I arrived at 7:30. First boat on the lake with a cold temperature of 36 degrees. I froze on the ride to the south end of the lake. Started fishing and immediately hooked into a cookie cutter tiger. The fishing was a lot better today and the weather was completely amazing! I fished until 4pm then called it a day. Finished up today with 14 tigers and 4 cuts, all were under 18". I'm glad I decided to try it again today. Although fishing isn't like it was last year at E lake it was still a great time with beautiful weather!

Sorry I was no help...guess I should of googled it [blush] But good job on those tigers and cutts man!!! I've only fished there twice and the first time I was on the southeast side and caught a 23" tiger just casting into the bays with chatter baits. Its a fun place if you can find the fish.
