Currant Creek Reservoir
#1
I am headed up to Currant Creek tomorrow with my wife and kids for the weekend. Has anyone been up there lately? How is the fishing? Suggestions on fishing tactics from the shore to get on some fish? Powerbait, minnows, spinners, flies, etc?

Thanks for any help. This will be my first time fishing up there and I would love to catch my first tiger trout.

Wouldn't hurt to take some Blue Foxes (size 2 &3) in a gold or chrome/blue pattern. My go to lure for Tiger trout. They seem to like shiny action more than rainbows.

Wouldn't hurt to take a pistol or some bear spray. Bears in that area.

We were up there over memorial day and caught fish on flies (prince nymphs), trout magnets, and especially count down rainbow rapalas (cd-5). We did most of our fishing from canoes but caught a few from shore as well. Should be a great time.

How do you guys rig your blue fox spinners?

Do you use a sliding egg weight with a swivel and then add leader and the spinner or do you throw it behind a plastic water filled bubble?

I tie mine right to the line. I only use a swivel when trolling them.

This.

They are heavy enough that you don't need to add weight to chuck them. I've watched them in very clear water during the retrieve and they behave beautifully tied directly to the line when hand reeling. When trolling you do need a swivel, speed gets too much for the lure and it starts acting all wonky. This is with fluoro/mono.

I was there a couple days ago. The fishing was slow. There is a lot of moss on the south end by the dam. It's really hard to fish the dam area because of all the moss. We only caught 2 fish in 5 hours. Reports from other people saying the same thing. It had really slowed down over the past week. There was a lot more pressure and people there than I expected in the middle of the week.

If the dam area is really mossy, just try to keep the lure, jig, etc above the weeds. If it's too thick to do anything, get a bubble filled halfway with water and lob a worm or minnow out there to where they don't tangle up right away.

There are always fish in that area, though they might hang right at the edge of the weeds or even between clumps of them.

If all else fails, walk the steep side until you find a gap in the weeds.
