Hey guys. I was wondering if anybody has checkout the ice on any of the southern lakes. I was mainly thinking about Panguitch, Kolob and Otter Creek but I'll take any info somebody wants share. I'm sure there is other people who would also like to know.
Thanks guys/girls

I haven’t been there to see for sure, but I’d bet Kolob has solid ice. There’s probably deep snow up there – you may have to snowmobile in. Other good bets would be Yankee Meadow, Red Creek Reservoir above Paragonah and Pine Lake near Bryce Canyon. Southern temperatures have been very cold at night but warming during the day. I’m guessing Panguitch and Otter Creek won’t freeze for another week or so - and then only if this cold weather holds.

My boss was up at Panguitch this weekend and said that there was open water on friday when he went up, but that there was a fresh layer of Ice across the whole lake on Sunday when he left. I should find out this weekend if Otter Creek has frozen, but I doubt it has yet. We generally shoot for the second weekend of December for it to be safe Ice. The wind usually keeps it off until then. I should know more this weekend after the Holiday.

Thanks guys. I do know most of the higher elevation lakes have some ice but as of Monday night they weren't safe yet. I was hoping somebody had recent ice thickness for any of these lakes or has been fishing them.
PBH ya I don't expect Otter for a couple weeks and Panguitch usually has different thickness in different spots before all of it is safe ice. I guess I'll just have to shoot some ducks and check it out for myself.
Anybody else have any info? I can't expect the DWR site to help much.

hedges -- that was DBW that gave some info...not me. I could tell you that there are some lakes on the Boulder that have safe ice...In fact, Last week there was one that is open for fishing during the winter that had safe ice. I'm sure that the Barkers have safe ice also.
I also know that there is a lake near Fish Lake that was fishable through the ice as of 2 weeks ago. It only had 1" of ice, but hey, if you don't fall through, I guess it's safe! What else are float tubes good for in the winter? They make great floatation devices for getting out on the ice before everyone else!

i visited kolob on saturday. i had my auger and fishing gear ready to go and everyone said i was crazy. anyhow i left the fishing gear home and went for what i thought was a nice drive. blue springs and kolob are both froze tight. kolob had 2.5-3 inches of good clear ice. i will be there next week.
