Utah Lake 7/1
#1
I had the day off because I was supposed to go on a trip out to the Ute Indian reservation this weekend, but it fell through.[frown]

Utah Lake was pretty good to me Saturday, so I figured I'd hit it again. Got down to AF harbor about 6 a.m. Boy are weekdays much nicer as a fisherman than weekends. I got out to my spot about 6:30 and threw out the usual shrimp and white bass. I moved around several times before I hooked onto my first fish, an ugly little mudder. About 8:00 I had the first channel of the day on. A decent 21 incher.[inline 001.JPG]

I kept moving around about every 20 minutes or so all morning, with nothing more but a few missed hits. By 10:00 I figured I'd go throw a jig around the dyke and see if I couldn't at least catch a couple white bass. After about 10 minutes of throwing the jig, I hooked onto something that felt pretty big. I was hoping for a bass or walleye, it ended up being a 20 inch cat.[inline 003.JPG]

After that I figured, if I'm cruising up and down along the dyke anyways, why not drag a shrimp back and forth with me? Another few minutes later and had another kitty on the jig. [inline 004.JPG]

As soon as I had that one unhooked and on its way, my shrimp rod just about took a dip. Luckily I grabbed it in time and fish was on. It was a good fight, ended up being a solid 26 incher, and a new addition to the contest.[Image: happy.gif][inline 005.JPG]

After that, a couple more on the jig.[inline 009.JPG]

My legs got tired after a bit, and I had some night crawlers with me, so I decided to go back into the harbor and see if I could tangle with some Blue Gills, Crappie, or Whities. The worms were gross and dead so I could only get random bits on the hook, but the Blue Gills didn't mind one bit. They were also some of the biggest I've caught in a few years. (the blue gill pictures aren't showing up, so I'll just link them at the bottom.) I actually caught a couple on fly, and a couple on bare hook as well. It was a good day.[fishin]

Awesome! I wanted to go this morning but then I decided to go to work!
Next time you go and want company PM me! I don't mind fishing alone but its fun to compete and "show off" too! I'm still waiting for the right tube/toon to pop up on KSL. Nice fish brother!

Appreciate the reports. Mind if I ask what kinda jigs are working out there? I plan to have cut-bait/shrimp on 1 pole & jig with the other on my tube.

That's exactly what I was doing. Just dragging around a piece of shrimp while a threw a jig at the rocks along the dyke. I was just using a white curly tail grub with a white jig head. I didn't try tipping the jig with anything, but it might work even better. I was catching cats earlier in the year on white bass, but shrimp has been working better lately. Though the white bass that I've been using has been frozen, thawed, and frozen again several times, so that could be the problem. Fresh white bass has been hard to come by. [Image: happy.gif]

@78caddis: I go pretty much every saturday. I'm always happy to have some company.

@SkunkedAgain: Yeah, it was a good day. I finally decided to try TD's patented "catfish bait troll", and it was much more exciting to catch them that way than just sitting. Plus I could cover more ground.
