I'm not set up with down riggers but would love to catch some kokes up at the berry. Has anyone had any luck fishing for them with leaded line that would be willing to share?
Thanks

I was using lead core, last week at the Berry, with little luck, I usually do better with lead core but I think it had to do with how deep the fish were hanging. If you can figure out how much line to let out to get to 40 to 50 feet deep, you should be able to catch them.

you can catch them with leaded line but you will have to locate them on your fish finder then try and figure out the depth your lures are running. then repeat it .that's the trick. cant go wrong on a rmt fusion doger with a pink/sparkle squid trolled at 2.0 mph. good luck i'll be up there this weeked look for my boat i'd be glad to put you on fish

I don't know why, still scratching my head. At the gorge a few weeks ago, we could only pick them up on the down riggers. I was also running leaded line out the back, with extra weight and the EXACT same setup of a dodger and a Kokanne Creek lure as was on the riggers. I was running the leaded line right at 45', just the same as the riggers. (confirmed by occasional touches with the bottom). Same dodger, same lure, same depth, but NO fish. Anyone have an explaination? I'm wondering if the rigger ball acts as much as an attractor as the dodgers for Kokes? Thoughts?

I had the exact same experience at the gorge a few weeks ago and the way we solved it was to put about eight more feet of leader on the line. I think the leader was too short and the fish were put off by the leaded line that close. After that we still picked up more on the riggers, but the leaded line catch increased drastically.

That's typically my experience as well. However a couple years ago one day only, I was picking them up only on the lead line poles. I have scratched my head on that one for a while. I believe you may have better luck if you jig for the koke's if you don't have lead line.
