The big W at Willard
#1
Well I finally got the opportunity to take my 19 month old daughter out in the boat for the first time. My wife, daughter and I hit the water this afternoon to see how she liked it. My son is at grandmas for the week. So we head to Willard and don't really plan on being out long. We slowly drove out of the south marina just to the corner by freeway bay. I put out the planer boards and just drive around for about 20 mins. All the time keeping my eye on an ugly cloud to the north. My daughter was enjoying everything and then I felt the wind start to pick up. I wasted no time pulling in lines and hi tailing it back to the S. marina. I was one of the first ones of a huge group to come in. I got off without too much hassle even with the wind ripping through the marina. After we got our boat out and up out of the way I went back down to help anyone else I could. It was a mess. I helped 4 boats out and got a little wet in the process. Those big boats can really catch some wind. All in all it was a successful first voyage for my little girl though. She had fun and likes being on the boat.

The water is really low as you might know. Most depths I saw we're 10-11 ft out in the bay. The deepest I saw was 17 ft. The shallowest was 4. At the docks in the south marina it is only 2 ft deep. That's also with me just nose up to the dock. I had zero depth issues with my boat getting in and out. I have a small 17 ft trophy center console. It won't be long though before it will be too shallow for me to take my boat out there again.

yea my daughter liked it for a little while. Then she wanted to get in the water. So My wife and her did a little swimming/floating. After that all she wanted to do was get in. So she was getting crabby that she couldn't she'll be going on the short trips for a while. My son can stay on the boat all day as long as he has cars or something to do when he gets bored.

Good Luck. Nothing is better than showing your kids new things for the first time.

Hey FishSlayer, I was out there Sunday afternoon when that big wind came up. Had just boated one nice Cat about 200 yards off the feed lot wall. Felt a breeze, looked north and saw that thunder cloud movin my way, and fast. I only got a little 14' Lund with a 15 HP Merc, but I leaned into it best I could. Lucky the wind was almost directly at my stern, gave me a bit of a push right on in to the marina. Once I got up next to the dock, I just waited till most of the bigger boats cleared out, then got my trailer in.
I got a photo of that thunder cloud moving south down the lake just before I hauled everything in and headed for the marina.
