At some point catching the smallies on topwater gear will get old for me, but at the moment it's a great way to start the day.
I launched the tube at just after 6AM and this time I headed down toward the dam. The fishing wasn't as good as I've had other places on the lake, but I still caught 13 SMB between 6AM and 8:15PM -- all on POP-R's of different colors (I was experimenting and it didn't seem to matter much... size or color).
Here are a few pics of the trip this morning:

How are you fishing those pop-r's? Think I could do it from shore?
Sweet pics by the way

Yes I'm sure you could do it from the shore. I've done it before.
Take a pole, a small pack, and some good hiking shoes. Cast down the bank about 6' off shore and pop it back.
And keep moving.
Fishing along the banks it'll be more hiking than fishing... but definitely doable.

I went up this morning too. I caught 8 Smallies, 1 LMB and a Bluegill all on Pop-r's from the shore. I hit the Wallsburg arm. They are a lot of fun to catch. I try to keep the Pop-r anywhere from 2 feet to 10 feet from the shore. Most of the hits are within 5 seconds of the lure hitting the water. Make sure you let your first cast sit at least 10 seconds before popping it. You definitely want to keep moving though, I move about 20 feet at a time. The bite really does slow down between 8 and 9 AM.

When I find a new place/way to fish, I get obsessed. I was actually up there last night too. I fished from 7 until dark. I only caught 2. I missed a few bites though. If I were to go at night again I think I would park by the dam and walk along the tracks on the west side. I think the shade of that mountain might be beneficial. But at the same time, I might have no idea what I'm talking about.
Good luck.

Thanks. Ended up going last night where you suggested. It was really windy so I waited til it died out about 9 pm and only got about 30 min in before it got dark. I got 2 small mouth and then missed one. First time for me doing anything topwater besides fly fishing. Definately a fun way to fish. I was using one of the rapala skitter pops
