Hello everyone! I am looking to take my kids fishing this week. Just keeping it simple with kids fishing poles, and hoping to go to a nearby lake. We live in Davis County. Any advice? I have struck out twice this summer (taking the kids) and really want the kids to have a blast fishing. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank You!

(I'm guessing you're shorebound)
Shore fishing suggestions....
Bear River for cat fish
Lost creek Reservior for planter trout
Upper end of Pineview for small crappie - if there is an brush in the water you kids should be able to at least catch some.

Mantua for gills and maybe a bass. Almost all the community ponds can be good for cats and gills.

When fishing lakes/ponds from shore is it best to sink the bait or use bobber? I haven't really bait fished since I was a kid.

Over the years I've come to rely on a night crawler on a regular hook, with a couple split shot 2 or 3 feet up. Cast out and let it sit on the bottom. If that's not working, then try a bobber. That's it... I've caught everything on that setup, Perch, cats, Tiger Muskie, blugill, and trout. Before this year I only fished the shores. The lakes I went to are Newton, Payson, Mantuua, Willard (not as much luck here tho), and Holmes Creek. (And anywhere I could while out camping)
Good Luck!

You can do both, some fish will pick up the bait off the bottom others will take a bait under a bobber but the here is the rule I use, if the lake or pond has a rocky bottom, fish on the bottom, if it is mossy or there is a lot of weeds growing around the edges in the water, I'll use a bobber.
