Fun at Yuba
#1
My nephew, his son and I went to Yuba the other day to see if we could catch some pike. The only other time I have been there was last spring. The lake is way lower that it was then, so had to find new places to fish. We ended up casting Rapalas and other minnow looking lures along the rocky banks and did fairly well. Nothing too big, but we had fun and the weather wasn't bad, no wind at all. The young one caught the biggest pike, but that's the way it should be!

Looks like a fun outing Gary. I might not do any fishing until the ice comes on. I'm still waiting for the new outboard for my Lund. Apparently the Merc XS Pro 150's are in very short supply! Take care. Looking forward to ice fishing Starvy already.

Mike,
Wow, that sucks about the motor! I hope we have as good a year on the ice as last year was. Take care.

[#0000FF]Don't know if you have tapped in to the ongoing reports on Starvy this year but the perch prognosis is a bit grim. Seems like several regulars observed large numbers of dead perch...of all sizes...after iceout. No idea what the cause might have been...probably not winter kill. Starvy is too deep and has weed beds. Might have been a virus or parasite such as what caused the previous dieoffs in Rockport and Jordanelle several years ago.

Anyhooters, there have not been any good catch reports of perch this summer. A few schools on sonar but very few and scattered fish in all of the usual perch hotspots. Most I have caught on any trip this year has been about 10...in places where I usually catch a hundred or more in a day.

It has been good for walleye, smallies and of course the everlovin' Starvy steelies.

I plan a couple of trips in September to try to prove my fears groundless. Sometimes I love it when I am wrong.

Very nice Gary looks like a great outing for you and family for them toofee critters.

Now on the ice fishing and hope TD finds out we'd for sure like to try Starvy...right now we'll be planning a extended trips due north a few hundred miles going after them Perchzillas...yea a little ways but we had one heck of a trip last year never caught Perch that large in our entire lives average was 12-13" and yep we did catch the Utah size also but most were well over 12" plus.
