Skunked's Day Off
#1
Okay I took a day off to go to the Dr. with my wife, but found out it was the wrong day... oops... So I did the only thing I could think of to salvage a day that was now vacation instead of sick leave... I went fishing... Hit the water at 8:00 AM got the spot I'd decided to try and it was a slow start.. Tossed a jig over by a log and wam fish on... LMB

After many blank casts I broke out my minnows and started getting hits. Missed four in a row that spit it out on the way in then I got back on track, ended up catching 9 fish 1 LMB and rest were Smallies, like the one below.

Pulled the tape and scale on this smallie to see how it ranked... 1.60 lbs and 14"....

Since I was using minnow two swallowed them and got damaged when I tried to get the hook out, so I guess they volunteered for the flotilla feast on Saturday.... Notice the difference between a 12" and a 14" bass in the basket...

Fun day but only 1/3 the catch rate of Saturday... 3 per hour today versus 9 then... Besides they didn't like plastics today, so I was limited to the minnows I had... Anyway I knew it couldn't last like that trip, but I was spoiled and expected it... so I'm a little disappointed on a trip that usually would make me very happy... Anyway catch ya next time... J

The Catfish quit on me and I started catching these guys instead and I can't complain they are a ton of fun... The big guy really fought, I thought I had a real fish for a while, but I had changed my line to that new stuff Nanofil, and it was 12 lb so I could muscle it in if I wanted... If it would have been the old 4lb rotten mono I would have had a fight on my hands.. Fun stuff and thanks for the comments... J

No problem. Not familiar with the nanofil stuff. Just starting to get into the flourocarbon stuff. O plan on changing some of m reels out to it next year.

That Nanofil line is slick stuff it casts like crazy. I was in the weeds three times because I kept overcasting. I'm not sure it's as sensitive as my pro line but it sure is nice to cast. Sort of expensive, but for my main pole I splurged. Later J

When a day off comes around it can be difficult to get ones self out the door, but apon return to work, somehow the fishing trip becomes that much more epic.

Thanks for sharing the stats, the pics and the line of choice. Are you putting a clear leader on that floro?

ETDT I think it's a stages of life thing, you're still young enough that time hasn't become the premium it will in your future years... I'm old enough time is a premium and my health is good enough that I'm not facing it's cruel torment to get going in the morning... So for me I can't wait to jump out of bed in the morning on a fishing day, it's better than Christmas morning to a kid.... I never get much sleep anyway so I'm always tired and what better way to be tired than from doing something you love...

I am tipping my new line with about 20" of monofilament... I'm not sure, is Nanofil a fluorocarbon? I read the package and it said its some special process of alining and bonding the strong fibers together, but didn't really say what materials it was... It acts like teflon, its white and slick as snot, I hope to get a better feel for it in the next few trips, but my first run was positive...

Thanks for the comment and don't let those mornings slip away, sleep isn' t all it's cracked up to be... Later J
