Willard 10-01-13
#1
I got out on Willard on Tues. It was another skunk for me, two weeks in a row now[frown]. Talked to two separate boat fisherman, with the same reports. Water was a little clearer and there were lots of baby shad jumping as the boat went by them but only one hit on a shallow running lure. Water temp was 63*, a 1 degree drop from last week. Fished from 4pm to 7pm thinking it might be better than the morning trip Iast week. Water has continued to drop and now the island is out of the water a few inches.

It was a nice evening on the water at least and a beautiful sunset but the mosquitoes were bad as soon as I got to shore. If I make it out there next week I think I'll take my waders and see what I can find on the island[Wink].

[#0000FF]Sorry the fishies din't wanna play with ya. Once the water temps drop toward 60 the hardbait bite is just about over. Time for slow plastics. I know of a couple of old guys that just wade the shoreline throwing 3" white plastic tubes...dragging them on the bottom...slowly...and they usually catch fish this time of year.

With the water continuing to drop you can wait a couple of weeks and just walk all the way out to the island...or take a wheeler.

[#502800]Maybe some of that skunk still remained from the port side of your boat from last week.[/#502800]
[#502800]That's a terrific picture of the sunset.[/#502800]

My very thoughts. Hmm, seems like the shad are doing well enough. Maybe the low water just interferes with the Wipers schooling them up, or they don't need to bother (yawn! gulp)

Wave - I'm guessing you were hugging starboard? [Wink]

Really - walking to the island? Wouldn't that mean it's become a peninsula?!

Unless you want to wade...

Unless the lake gets lower than I have ever seen it, about the only way you will be able to walk to the Island is with chest waders, it will not be on dry land. I have seen it 3 ft lower than it is right now and between the South marina and the Island is 6 to 7 ft at this time. I guess it could happen, if we have a really bad, low snow, winter but the way the fall is starting off, I'm hopeful.
