Okay a couple years ago I asked a question about what one could do to become one of the 10% that catches the 90% of the fish... I got lots of great advice, some of it I have tried to incorporate and other things I have forgotten before I got them fully incorporated into my way of doing things, so since it's getting between seasons and reports are slowing down, I thought I'd try getting a tune up to try and hone my skills...
So I have incorporated the fishing log to keep a record of the where, when, what and details of the trips. I believe I have a year and a half of records now to flash back through to remind me of what worked and what didn't...
Other things were electronics and learning to use them, I think I was okay on this before, however, I know better detail would help me so I can tell baitfish from static. I think I now use the finder more for terrain and structure than just looking for fish and setting depths. The GPS for trolling speed was very important to keep me from moving too fast, also like to mark good spots to return too another day, but I don't believe in one and only spots anymore, but I have seen how 5 feet can make a huge difference in catch rates, don't be afraid to move a little.
Another thing I incorporated was a finess fishing platform.. (Pontoon with electric motor and rod holders) This has really been a fun way to fish, if I'm fishing alone or with others that have a tube or toon... My take in the toon is much higher than in my boat or on shore...
The number one rule of fishing where the fish are at has been a challenge to learn and I still work at this, but I think key to this was the proper depth and make sure your lure is working where the fish are feeding...
Now what am I still missing that I can work on to help me get better? Thanks J
