So i am heading up to the Gorge to cut X-mas trees in late Nov. with the family.
We will be about half way from Manilla to the dam at the lodge up there for a couple days i guess.
Question is this. What works for burbot from shore? are there any places along the road from Manilla to the dam past sheep creek boat ramp(??) that are good areas to try out? and finally, what time of day/night should I try to target some of these things?
I would like to catch one or two but in all honesty I have not a clue how. I imagine I will only get a few hours away to fish, unless "others" (being females of my family) want to unexpectedly go with me for an outing.
anyway, thanks for the info in advance.

Just repeating what I've heard on the forum, but it sounds like Burbot are mostly located in the upper (Wyoming) end of the reservoir so I don't know if it will be very productive fishing for them where you're going to be. Maybe try the bows instead. They fish Burbot mostly at night from what I understand and if you get lined up with those guides you may catch more fish than your freezer has room for. I'm not sure what they charge, but I'd kind of like to try that myself sometime. Good luck. J

Most of the burbot are in the northern end but they are in the entire lake. Usually rightt at dark the bite begins and slows down around 10ish. A friend caught one last week with a worm/marshmallow combo in the middle of the day. Usually we use glow jigs tipped with sucker and crawdad scent off the boat. Hope you catch a few!

I saw a guy catch a four pounder from shore in sheep creek bay in march. He was tossing a jig just as it was getting dark. Like MJ says, you miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take, so it might be worth a try!

Glow or craw dad colored jigs work the best. Tip with carp or sucker. I don't think smelly jelly is a big deal it was about a 50/50 split last winter between bait with it and without it.
Fish rocky areas, preferably with drop offs into deeper water.
Glowing often can result in more bites, but I have caught a few on motor oil and pumpkin seed jigs which can't be glowed.
You can dead stick or have a slow retrieve.
It is fishing, but can be really hot at times. Other times you'll just have to mix it up.

So I went up with the family in tow to harvest our christmas trees, which went very well, and after all that travel and discussion I realized in Evanston WY that I had in fact left the rod and box at home.[:/] So no fishing done. [pirate]
Only the looksee I got to see if there was any ice anyplace on the several bays I passed on my way up to high country. it looked as if it is progressing well and there should be some fishable ice in places by Christmas.
sigh.
