OCEAN FISH IN THE WEBER

On the way back from Wanship last night, we hit up a few spots on the Weber at the Henefer. My buddy ended up catching something that we could tell didn't belong there. Thanks to Google it looks like a "Giant Goby". I'll upload some pictures of it later and I told him to send a picture of it to the DWR. It didn't look like it was going to survive much longer, but I hope this doesn't wreck the river.

[#0000FF]Probably a sculpin. Lots of them in various Utah waters. And they do kinda look like gobies. How big was your "giant"?

Looked a lot like that/around that size. It flared it fins out in a very "don't eat me" display. ....Just looked it up...wow I learned something today. Thanks for the info.

[#0000FF]Those are definitely on the approved menu item list for big browns. Also a big food item in Bear Lake, where they are enjoyed by all the big predators.

Most fly flingers know that the "muddler minnow" is mostly designed to imitate sculpins.

They are legal to use for bait so whenever you can scare up a few they are great for drifting through deep holes (dead...not live) to prospect for big ol' hookjawed browns.

I usually find them being swallowed by browns that hit streamers. Before the sculpin is completely down they're ready for more.

Holly **** that's one ugly guy. I caught a 6" from Kidney pond that didn't look ugly like that at all. [laugh]
