Where will the first ice be?
#1
I cant take it anymore!!! i got all my ice reels out and oiled them today. yesterday i purchased a bunch of tackle and put new blades on my auger!! Don't know what is going to be next but i don't think it will be cheap!
I was wondering typically where is the first place in winter to freeze over?

Thanks

The first places aside from the Uinta's, along highways that stay open all year, are up Fairview canyon. Huntington and Cleveland are usually first, followed by Scofield. Some or all of these lakes usually have safe ice by Thanksgiving weekend, depending on how many clear nights they get to freeze after they cap before a layer of snow gets dumped on them and slows the process.

From the UDWR's website and fishing report:
Quote:Benches Pond

Slow The pond is mostly iced over. There haven't been any recent reports on fishing conditions.
Blue Lake

Slow Access is expected to be treacherous. A snowmobile is recommended. There haven't been any recent reports on fishing conditions. In early October, Kathy Jo Martinez reported excellent fishing.
Boulger Reservoir

Slow It's likely that this pond is iced over. Depending on temperatures, there may be a partial thaw in the afternoon. Before ice-over, traditional baits worked well. The access road will be snow-covered with possible ice and mud. We recommend using a four-wheel drive vehicle to get to the area.

I've actually been pretty shocked the last couple years the boat harbors in Utah Lake have froze around the same time Scofield does. Fishing is great there as well early ice on.
