Fished Strawberry yesterday with Kory and of course he out caught me (nothing knew there) but not by much. We were the first to launch at Renegade.
Went to the first area and never had to fire up the outboard again except to leave at the end of the day (just before sunset). Did I say that we like to make a day of it?
Early, they were right on the surface. Casting tubes tipped with cut bait (chubs or red sided shiners) high in the water column was effective for the first couple of hours. Casting a plain tube jig early would have probably worked just as well.
Kory, got the bright idea to try dropping his tube 5 or 6 feet under a bobber and we caught fish all day long using that method. We caught a few vertically fishing but probably not over 20 or so.
The two new "secret baits" are a bobber and an apple core (floating on the surface). The cutts hit both; although Kory got more hits on a pencil-style bobber than I did on the old standard red and white variety.
We didn't keep an accurate fish count, but it was well over a hundred, with only 3 rainbows (all invited home) and the largest cutthroat was 21 3/4".
Beautiful day, great company and the catching wasn't too bad either. Thank you to the kind man, at the boat ramp, who did all of the work getting the boat trailered, at the end of the day.[
] Most appreciative of his kindness.
