I'd seriously doubt you could get there in a truck at this point. If so, you'll likely need chains for all 4 tires and I wouldn't go in a single truck. A caravan of trucks would be better so you'll have some help when you get stuck. Unless you're just looking for an adventure, the fishing there wouldn't be worth the effort.

If you're looking for big trout close to Boise, Cascade or CJ is your best bet, but they are few and far between. If you don't mind traveling a bit further you'd have better success at Magic or SFCR.

That's my opinion any way. FWIW.

I personally don't catch a lot of big ones at Cascade, but I don't really target them much either. I do know they are there, though. When I go there I'm usually targeting perch. I have caught them on accident, though. My personal best through the ice is in the 20-21 inch range. I saw a couple of guys a few years ago that had 2 that were 26 and 28 inches. I'm not sure how they were rigging or what they were using.

If you are catching bows up to 3.5 lbs you're not doing too bad. I believe, though, that if you want to target the trout and are looking for big ones, you might try shallower water. If I was targeting big trout at Cascade, I'd fish in water no deeper than about 10 feet and I wouldn't steer away from water as shallow as 3 or 4 feet. Also with the trout, I'd put out as many lines as I could and try a lot of different depths.

Also, with the low snowpack we had LAST winter there's probably not too much water left in Sage Hen at this time of year to freeze /fish anyway! That little reservoir is pretty much drained dry by Aug /Sept every year.

As stated, Sage Hen is too diffcult to get to plus it would be a dink fest.

3.5 lb trout thru the ice close to Boise is about as good as it is gonna get. (Cascade)

It's really not that far, but always seems to take me 2.5-3 hours to get there.
