Okay I hate to beg, but is anyone going to be on Mantua this afternoon, probably around 3:00? I have a chance to leave work early and so I threw my ice rods in the car just in case I could find a couple minutes to try Mantua on the way home.. Problem is I forgot my auger and tackle box... So do you think I could get someone to drill me a hole if I stumble out for a few minutes before my feet get cold, since I don't have my boots? One other question, wax worms, walmart or maverik? Thanks J

There are a couple of us going to try and get out if the boss will let us off early if so we are going to try and leave Ogden about 2 and would be more than happy to assist. And Walmart should have plenty of Wax Worms for you.
, since I don't have my boots? J
Ok you must be hard up for a fishing fix. Forgot your boots and still going out on the ice. Get some foot warmers while you are getting your wax worms. Don't want you to get frost bite. Be safe out there.

You know how addicts are anything for a fix. Grabbed some wool socks at Smith and Edwards. By the way they got a shipment of wax worms but they were all frozen so that's a no go spot today. Later J

I was coming from the other direction, so I tried the Brigham Walmart and they didn't have any waxies either guess their shipment froze also... Said maybe tomorrow.. Anyway I got some Gulp worms and they worked alright, I got 8 fish in two hours... Not as good as most was doing, but I did catch some quality fish. Got 4 LMB, 3 Bows and a perch... Oh and those wool socks worked great, my feet didn't get cold at all... However, it got dang cold as soon as the sun went down, I nearly froze my hands off by the time I got to the car after catching the last fish and having wet hands... Later J

Thanks, I didn't have a tape with me, but it was a good fish. I suspect it was between two to two and a half pounds and guessing it at 17". It had a big ole mouth and thick shoulders. By the way all fish are still swimming except the last trout that bit as I was on an important work call so I didn't get it released very fast so I kept it to eat. Fun way to end a work day, if I only could have hooked a gill for my Mantua Slam. Later J

I think you were at Newton the time I arrived wearing my fuzzy slippers!
Good thing I had the backup Mickeys! Saved my little totties!
Bass under ice, who woulda thunk it! But no Gill's?
How was the ice? South sidelaunch?

Yes I believe I was there the day of the slipper showing. Just as well be comfy I always say. The Mantua ice is okay, but if you step off the trail there is still water under the snow and some spots looked scary. I think the snow slowed the freeze rate over there because I expected it to be thicker than it is. Where I fished it seemed like 3 to 4" of ice was all and I expected 6" but it held fine and didn't make too many noises. Later J

Be very careful, especially with kids and pets. The ice is less than 3 inches in some spots I checked. Advise sticking close to the main trails. I took a stroll earlier this week, to the north toward the knoll, and came across a couple spots with bubbles coming up through the ice with open water. Not easy to see until your right on them.
Caught and released several slimers, only a couple of gills.

Very good tips, I really expected more ice. But then again its so nice and warm when the sun is shining that its probably not freezing during the day. Glad you got some fun. Later J

Ya that was me, nice to have had your company. I did pretty good caught 9 Gills, 4 Bass (1-2.5lber), and 11 trout. Fishing slowed down after the sun went down.

Thats too bad, one that sized would have been a good eater[ ]. Sure don't see many that sized come through the ice.
Wiperslayer and I was there yesterday as well, in the AM(8am-2pm). We did pretty good with 13 and 14 slimers, all around 14", 16 or 17 gills up to 9", 4 or 5 perch up to 9", two bass up to 12" and even one green sunfish. It was a good outting for my first day on the ice this season[ ].
