Hey Buddy, how did you do? 4 of us went up yesterday, we did pretty good. I lost 8 or so but I think that's because when I go to set the hook i have to much play in the rod. Can't wait to see how you did. I will try and get the pics I have posted. Good luck talk to you soon

[Wink] I caught about 16 fish today. The largest was 19 inches. Forgot the video camera if you can believe it. That is not like me. I did try to take a pic with my phone, we will have to see how it looks. Actually pretty crappy, but here it is.

Can't believe I left the MP3 and the Camera on the kitchen counter this morning. That is what happens when you get up super early to go drive to one of you favorite fishing spots. [Wink]

A couple of questions for you, please.
With no bait and barbless law, what do you use? Have you ever tried Chironomids? And I know one pole for ice fishing, but can you fish the five lure on that one pole?

[Wink] A lot of my jig heads are hand painted at home with glow paints or powder, some are just off the shelf glow heads like the green in that bad picture. I steal my girls nail polish to add other features. I use small tubes and maniac lures (Gizzy Bugs & Gazillas) Never tried the Chironomids, but I usually like to try something new every time out. .Don't know about the five lure on one pole rule, I use one lure only for less opportunities to knot up. Last year on baited areas I tried crayfish tails which I thought worked really good on some ponds.

I was wondering the same as FG.
My experience this past weekend on chesterfield I experimented with up to 4 chronomids....got hits on FGs patriot.....white/black....olive pattern chronomids. Also got hits white wooly bugger. I think watching fish on flasher made me set hook too early. but did not have any landed this time with fly patterns.

I jigged spoons no luck. I hope to try D on ice this Christmas.

[Wink] Fish are a little slower in the winter. Hook size might make the difference with the flies or when your having a hard time setting the hook. When it comes to barbless and no bait, I go a little bigger.

I prefer to err on the large side. You'd be surprised at the size of some of the lures I use, I think.

If nothing else, using a large lure deters the little guys from biting. I don't really care if I catch the little ones anyway. From my experience the bigger fish aren't shy of larger lures. Often the small ones aren't either. I caught a 4-5 inch perch last week on a jiggin rap that was 3 inches long. Catch them all the time, in fact. But the big ones, they just flat inhale the whole thing.

[Wink] My next trip out I might try some of the suggestions passed on to me. I have alway has good fishing days, but something else to bring in the big lunker is alway appreciated. Just need to keep an open mind and try something new periodically. That is how I have good luck up until now. Everyone enjoy and be safe out on the ice. Some areas are not that thick yet.
