Got out for two hour this afternoon cut my five holes, set three jaw jackers and my two jigging rigs close and see what happens. I was fishing a spot I have always wanted to ice fish but at most of the time the ice is not safe. I probably had about a dozen bites in those two hours, landed a small rainbow and these two nice German Browns. Yet it was the one that got away that still has my heart pounding. Guys I realize it was a trash fish but I brought up to the base of the ice a Carp that was three feet long and I would guess 18 inches through from back to bottom of his belly. I would guess eight inches thick across the top of his back. My Jaw Jacker went off and the line was just screaming. I had eight pound test line on and as soon as I got it out of Jacker I new it was a carp just by the powerful pull. After a half an hour on my knees this thing swam past below the ice and my jaw dropped. I got a finger in his gill and could not get him through the eight inch hole, so I let him go and tailed him and tried from that direction. I could get about a foot of him out of the hole before he hung up, he finally broke my line. I think that might have been an unbeatable entry for our fish contest as my non game fish. Whatever the case what a battle that I will never forget. Here are a couple of pictures of my browns.
