Powell anyone?
#1
So, I live like two hours away now... Anyone want to meet up and hit it with me this week? I'll be in a pontoon, freezing my ass off, and likely not catching anything, but you never know, right?

While I'm here, does anyone have any insight into winter fishing LP? I've tried Wayne's place, but man, there isn't much info there. I don't mind just driving over and winging it, but if anyone has any good advice, I'd be sure to have Tube Dude rub your feet in return.

TIA,

TBD.

Powell is a big lake. Which area are you two hours from?

Good call. I'm in St. George, and depending on how fast I drive, I suppose it's probably more than two hours to any real spot. (2 hours is what I told my wife, just so she doesn't flip out) I was thinking Wahweap, but then again, I'm a moron.

I read your FL report on Waynes and was troubled by the fact that a Powell Board was so slow that they had to resort to FL posts. (not that your post wasn't great)

It's just time of year. Wayne stops posting weekly fishing reports in November. They'll pick up again in about March.

You should still be able to find stripers this time of year. The back of Navajo, Warm Creek, or even Lone Rock. Navajo and Warm Creek will be a long kick in your pontoon -- maybe you'd get lucky and passing boat would give you a tow? I know I would.

What I would recommend would be to email Wayne directly and ask him. He's pretty good at going out of his way to help people catch fish.

(if you were going to the north end of the lake, you'd probably do just fine in your tube. Head to Blue Notch!)

Powell this time of year doesn't see much traffic, hence the slower boards. I live 3 hours from Powell, but am 6 hours from Page.

I've never fished it in January, so I am not much help, but from what I know, the stripers will be schooled in deep water, and vertical jiggin with spoons and castmasters will probably be your best bet. For other species, I'm sure they are not very active so the fishing could be tough. Frankly, I'll wait until April myself. I'm sure some other people will be more helpful and will post.
