My son purchased a cabin up in Idaho and needed some help with the remodel so I agreed to come up so long as we could get a few hours on the ice for perch. He agreed and we took a half day to see what we could do.
In the morning we took the 4 wheelers up lake about 4 miles and stopped to talk to a couple of anglers to ask for suggestions. My eyes popped out at the 16" perch laying on the ice along with many in the 12 to 15" range and several 24"+ bows. You are allowed 5 rods each in Idaho and it was interesting to see them try to talk to us and constantly jump to attend bites. This had to be the place. We asked if they cared if we moved in 50 yards further on and they seemed to be happy to have company.
Drilled 2 holes each for my son and I and set up my new jaw jacker in one. Water was 28' and ice about 10". Well, to make a long story short we had constant bites and pulled up some of the most beautiful perch I have ever seen. A couple at 15", many at 12 to 14", and even lots from 6 to 10" which we released to grow up like their brothers. It was a wonderful morning I will never forget, especially since I was able to be with my son. We are looking forward to many more days on the ice together this winter while we spend some warm nights by the fireplace in the cabin. Can it get any better?
I have asked around and found Idaho has been stocking yellow perch in this lake for the last 12 years which seems to account for the great fishery there. Anyway, the vast majority of my ice fishing will be here in our great state of Utah, but after 5 very disappointing days looking for jumbos here, I guess its simply that I have been spoiled! Here's some pics...

My brother does not live far from that lake. Maybe time to visit his family, to bad he doesn't ice fish.
Congrats, and thanks for sharing.

[#ff0000]Mod note: As a reminder if the original post does not have the lake name listed, it is board rules that it cannot be named.. Thanks![/#ff0000]

word has it the Utah DWR is going to fishlake this spring and netting a bunch of perch and putting them in Yuba before they spawn.. it's really to bad they have not got plans to re-stock gunnison while they are at it tho.. that would help Yuba more then anything have a lake above it with perch to re-stock it all the time like it has in the past..

sorry i did not realize that he didnt mention the lake name...i didnt know it was a secret... that lake gets hammered by hordes of fisherman every year...idaho even has tournaments for perch on it...the state of idaho is very proud of it, and is not shy to post pictures of fish out of that very lake on their website...once again im sorry i didnt mean to let the cat out of the bag i did not realize it was a well kept secret...

The lake may not be a secret, but it is just one of our rules. I don't think much harm has been done seeing how the lake is in Idaho. But then again I don't know how heavy it gets hit either.[cool]
