Marcum Showdown 5.6 single beam vs Dual beam?
#1
Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a showdown in the next week or so. I have read reviews on both the single and dual beam and cant decide which one to get.

It seems the single beam reviews are better and more consistent.

Could yall let me know either way and why?

Thanks in advance!

The dual beam's narrow 8 degree beam can sometimes give better results in deep water. If you plan on using it in deep water or money isn't a concern then I would recommend the dual beam.

Well it just depends on how much of the bottom that you want the sonar to cover. I did a few calculations so you can decide for yourself.

100 ft deep:
20 degree - 975 sq ft (35 ft diameter)
8 degree - 155 sq ft (14 ft diameter).

50 ft deep:
20 degree - 240 sq ft (17.5 ft diameter)
8 degree - 39 sq ft (7 ft diameter)

20 ft deep:
20 degree - 39 sq ft (7 ft diameter)
8 degree - 6 sq ft (3 ft diameter)
