New moon perch and crappie???
#1
I'm just curious how good is night fishing for the perch or crappie during the new moon at pineview. I'm finally feeling better with the flue going away and might make a trip at the end of the month.

Any helpful advice thanks.

[#0000FF]Perch generally do not bite at night. Crappies are good targets for after dark. If you can find them you will usually catch a few. But with the average size of the crappies in Pineview this year it is a lot of cold for a little fish.

Big crappie at night but the perch bite dies off as the sun goes down

Maybe a brown trout, if you're lucky enough to catch one out of PV. The only ones I've seen out of there were huge.

Try east canyon for bigger croppie. At night find the zooplankton( it wil look like a cloud on a scanner)and you will find croppie. Same story at PV other than I haven't found the slabs at PV.

The only trout I've ever caught was a nice size tiger trout when I was a kid fishing for bass in a 23' boat with my dad and his friends. Good days.

I've only caught a few crappie during the spring time. I just hate how the canyon pass little dell is closed with a 90+ M trip I'd probably rather check out mantua again instead of east canyon unless someone come and tip in gas with me.

Any specific areas that are good for perch and crappie because I haven't had much luck on the ice this or last year Sadly.

I bought a propane heater and it says not to be used inside or in enclosed areas because you can suffocate... Is that the case?

yes that is the case for sunflower (tank top) heaters.. it seem like every year some one dies using one in a tent.. usually late season campers or hunters...only heaters approved for use indoors are safe enough to sleep while they are running.. tank top heaters are just fine for heating an ice fishing tent as long as you make sure to ventilate often..i used on for years before getting my mr buddy.hope that helps

There's a great tent invention called air vents. I got a mr buddy heater [laugh].

But if you ventilate you're going to let out all the heat. I guess my dream of ice fishing in 75 degree weather was a pipe dream...

There not big vents if you haven't been in a quick fish 3 tent, as well I'm sure no ice tent got huge vents that let a tons of cold air in. I literally have it on first setting and there are time it feels like a sauna .

So it probably wouldn't be worth targeting them specifically at East Canyon?

If there's one there is thousands. I have had better luck there(east can) than PV. It takes some poking around over 70+ fow. The crop have shoulders up there. As for the heater I insulate my shelter with those reflective windshield deals you know the kind you might use in the summer. I put 2 of them between the tent and the bars. It helps tremendously and they are feather weight. Don't block the vent!

Right on. You get them through the ice? Day or night? I might have to drag the sled out there. The trout in there are fighters anyway if the crappies can't be found. Also, do the crappies carry the parasite like the trout?

I only target them at night. As for the parasite I haven't seen it in the crops.
