Flaming Gorge Ice at Big Bend?
#1
Hey all,
I'm going to Flaming Gorge on the 30th of January for a couple of days. We are trying to decide whether to take ice fishing junk or a boat...

I like to fish the BIG BEND area, which is south of Buckboard. Is there fishable ice there? (Big Bend area?)...

Are they doing the Burbot Bash this year that weekend, from Buckboard? And is there fishable ice there?

Also considering HOLMS CROSSING area (for ice fishing), does anyone know if there is any fishable ice there?

I don't want to make plans, and take the wrong stuff.

If there is no ice, we will take a boat, but to be honest...it's a lot warmer ice fishing (in a shack...with a heater, etc!)

Thanks in advance!

I used to N.ot have E.nough T.ime O.ff to go fishing.  Then I retired.  Now I have less time than I had before. Sheesh.

Just an FYI. Lucerne ramp and Anvil ramps are frozen at last check. Burbot Bash is now, this weekend.

All ramps are frozen in from Lucerne north. We fished the ice at Holmes friday night. Ice was 3" and clear and loud, caught on burbot. Didn't catch any at Lost Dog on Saturday. Leave the boat at home, mine didn't do anything for me this weekend.

Just got home from a 3 day gorge trip. The ice from just above buckboard marina was safe about 15 inches. Below buckboard just froze wednesday night, it wasnt safe ice when I checked friday and saturday. By the middle of next should be safe from anvil all the way up. Not real sure about the main channel but all the coves and shore areas should be good. Hope this helps

Forecast looks good for ice production, with only two days in the next 10 with temps above freezing. There is a chance this weekend may have safe ice at Big Bend, but it's not a risk I would be willing to make. I guess wind will be the determining factor. I'll be heading up on the seventh for the weekend, and the weather has me pretty dang excited!

[#484848]What's the regs. on the pup Macs. with the reciprocal stamp ....... There is the Wyoming creel limit and the Utah creel limit and the fishing shows indicate, catch all the pups out of there?[/#484848]

From the proclamation:
Limit 8 lake trout/mackinaw, only 1 may
exceed 28 inches

[#484848]So what you are telling me is, you can catch 8 fish out of Wyo. with a reciprocal stamp? Or, do you fish under the Wyo. proclamation?[/#484848]

The states share the same regs for lakes that are in both states. From the Wyoming proclamation for Flaming Gorge.

The creel limit on lake trout shall be
eight (8) per day or in possession.
No more than one (1) lake trout
shall exceed twenty-eight (28)
inches.

So yes with the reciprocal you can catch 8 fish on the wyoming side as long as they are lake trout. Also you can catch 4 on the wyoming side then go to the utah side on the same day and catch 4 more.
