Is it coming to an end?
#1
Holy cow, what's up with the weather?[crazy] I was getting into the groove of ice fishing but with the warm temperatures and growing slush on the ice I'm asking my self is it over this year?[:/]

What do you guys (and gals) think?

It is for me - probably. I emptied my wax and meal worms out for the birds yesterday (they were gone in an hour) and I'll probably put the gear up on its summer storage shelf once it stops raining.

(Of course, that might not be until St Swithins Day!)

Nah, Strawberry starts getting good again around the beginning of March.

It sure puts a damper on things right now though.

This is what I was hoping to hear. I'm not ready to hang up the auger and tent just yet![Smile]

I can only hope. It's been way to long since I've had a big cat pulling me around in circles in my tube. Bring on spring!

I'm with you FishMc. Staring down a little hole in the ice while freezing your feet, butt, and other important body parts is symptomatic of a massive and deep-rooted psychological disorder -- the only cure: open water and 60+ degree weather.

Bring on the open water!

I'm torn, definitely haven't satisfied my ice-craving. I missed the early ice, and now seems there'll hardly BE late ice. But - haven't yet walked a plank this year. . .

I'm getting that cat-scratch fever too. Can't get out at the launch, but tempted to try other floatin' options. Wonder how easily sharp sheets of ice would tear through an inflatable...

So - whisker master BLK - when do YOU think we should fire up the cat contest this year? I know there's a fat 30+er out there wearing a bullseye - with MY name on it!

My vote's for March 1st, 15th at the latest.

BLK, how long are you thinking until most of the ice is off UL? The ice is pretty thick on there now, but with the warm temps coming up, I wouldn't think it would be too long.

Yote be careful of talking smack on cats this year, with the drain job over the winter I'm afraid the south may rise again this year. By the way I think the whole draining our pond was a plot by the south to win this contest. Later J

[#0000FF]Oops. Busted.

Wait 'til you guys up there discover that we dumped Preparation H into the lower Bear...to shrink the fish.

Seems like you went to piles of trouble there, TD...

Back on topic. Just put away all my ice gear. Greased the auger blades, took the batteries out of the flasher, lubed the reels, sorted the lures, moved all the small plastics to the panfish bag, and then slid the sled up onto the garage storage shelf. Done.

(But I could be back in action again in 15 minutes...)

Yote, McFish -- I've got my entry fee all saved up and I'm ready to be among the first to sign up for the cat contest. I really enjoyed it the last couple of years. I say open 'er up whenever time permits.

I have taken personal offense at all the smack from the north last year so I'm taking off my nice-and-friendly hat and replacing with my all-out-take-no-prisoners hat this year. I won't be entering anything under last years best of 33 inches.[Wink]

Shouldn't be too long before we get one of those big north winds that gets the ice moving on UL and it will open up pretty fast. Seems like I've seen some of those guys that fish for the mythical walleye out as early as mid-March in years past. Anyways, I'm ready to go. Sweet Wife is getting after me to do something about all those gross looking packages in the freezer (carp meat) and the packages of little fish (wb) -- precious stuff!

Bring it on!

[#0000FF]You din't say nuthin' 'bout gettin' out the yak. But after your wussy whinin' about the cold on Pineview last time I ain't surprised.

This time of year I take both the auger and the tube. Sometimes hard to drill a big enough hole for the tube though.

Here's a couple of pics taken from a February a few years ago...at the south marina of Willard. The inlet was open water but couldn't launch at the ramp. Had to take the tube around and launch from the snowy banks into the inlet. Got over 30 cats that day too. Cool.

[#0000FF]LOVE? You gonna send me flowers for Valentine's Day?

Passion? Rhymes with obsession or addiction. At least the end does...and it is likely to be the end of me.

Did you ever get back to the sandy beaches of Californicate?
