I am hoping to get on pineview this saturday. Has the cooler weather helped the ice conditions? This will be my first time going to pineview so any pointers on where to go or avoid would be helpful. I am hoping to get into a few perch. Thanks for all the great posts.

I'm heading up there in the morning and will let you know. There is some guy in an earlier post that will PM you the conditions if you cannot wait. I'm not quite sure what the secret is all about.

[#800000]I was there yesterday afternoon to check on the ice conditions in preparation for the ______ website GTG scheduled for Saturday. The ice is 15" plus (including the frozen solid slush on top) and getting on the ice at the Port Ramp was a piece of cake. The edges at Browning and Cemetery Points is going to take a plank or waders to avoid wet feet. However, you better be driving a 4X4 truck to access the parking lot at the Port Ramp. The drive in has some very deep ruts down to pavement that if you get into you will NOT drive out of and will be high centered with a car.[/#800000]

Bob, you'd think that if the state allows that concessionaire to charge $12 a boat to launch, that they'd require them to plow the flipping road during the few months they aren't gouging boaters.
But I guess not.

So you can't really expect them to just come and plow the lot for a mere handful of ice fishermen and women with no compensation. Look on the bright side; the USFS didn't put up a gate at the highway end to keep us out. [cool][/#800000]

Thanks, Bob. I wasn't thinking when I typed "state."
Yeah, we wouldn't expect them to spend a dime when they're only making $1500 a day, or $225,000 a season to sit at the end of a couple ramps. <sarcasm off>

[#484848]Maybe they could install a walkway from the dock to good ice this time of year and charge us $12 to walk the plank. <sarcasm on>[/#484848]

I fished off Cemetery Point yesterday, 2/22) and had the whole place to myself. Slush wasn't an issue and it was easy to get on. Ice was about a foot thick. The edges had pulled away a little, but refrozen and I got off without breaking through, thanks to the cloudy weather. Getting on, I could have gotten on without breaking through, but I was in waders and figured I'd test how strong the ice was. I barely broke through on the very edge.
Fishing could've been better. Got a couple of perch in a few hours. And to make matters worst, the last hour was spent trying to retrieve an underwater fishing light that sank to the depths in 20 FOW, but it was unsuccessful. Might have to try diving for it come summer.
